Welcome to the Global Intifada
Some say the world will end in fire
Some say ice
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire
But if it had to perish twice
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction
Ice is also great
And would suffice
I don’t minimize the extraordinary suffering of the Palestinians, Rwandans, Congolese and all, and I mourn for and with them without exception, but I confess that in my heart I have “ a secret sympathy, a silken tie” for Jews. How can one be the recipient of the rewards off Western Civilization and not feel Jewishness in his bones?
Sometimes I think the claim of Choosiness is an over- compensation used by the faithful to accept their fate by attributing it as a blessing from a ferocious and benevolent hidden Deity whose ways are mysterious. We expect the benevolence, otherwise why make us, but are perplexed by the chilling ferocity. Granted, we weren’t there when “ He laid the foundations of the world” Maybe at least Pythagoras should have been. The grand scale of the project exceeded the powers of “ The One” even if He is Three.
Reminds me of the man who was tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail. He remarked, “ if it weren’t for the honor of the thing I’d rather walk.”
